2編の総説と3編の原著論文が含まれています。最近の総説を大きく二つに分けるとすると、あるトピックに関して定量的な文献検索を行って全般的な傾向をみて一定の結論を出すものと、さまざまな観点から具体例を紹介するものがあります。前者は、系統的レビュー（systematic review）やシンセシス（synthesis）と呼ばれることが多く、最近増えている気がします。本特集の総説はこの2つタイプの総説が含まれています。
どちらの総説も読んでいてそれなりに意義を感じますが、前者は既存データを解析したメタ解析による原著論文と区別が難しいこともあるし、個人的には従来型の総説の中にこれまで知らなかった研究例を見つけるのが好きです。
というわけで、Kaiser-Bunbury CN et al. (2010) の「海洋島における動物ー植物の共生系の保全と復元」は勉強になりました。これまで紹介してきた、海洋島に独特な種間相互作用、種の絶滅、外来種、保全などが完結にまとめられていました。また、ここであまり紹介してこなかった復元（restoration）についても著者らの考え方を含めて概説されているのは勉強になりました。生態系の復元についてももう少し調べて紹介したいところです。
